I Wanna - Decent Pedometer

Hi All,
I'm trying to get into walking a bit more as need to shift some weight. I'd like to get a pedometer but have used them before and found them tempramental.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent make? I've heard of the Nike ones that connect wirelessly to your ipod but am loath to spend £20+ to get one without knowing if they are worth it.
Any advice appreciated,
Al x

Just got back into walking myself and couldnt find a decent pedometer then it came to me that there may be an app for that
and there were dozens of them.
I tried quite a few and the one i would recommend is itreadmill. it allows use of music while you walk as well as stat tracking over time. Only of use if you have an iPod touch or iPhone though obviously.
If i hadnt figured out the above i was all set to buy this one which gets good reviews.

I have an Omron Walking Style Pro. Can't remember what I paid for it, got from Amazon if I remember rightly, but it is very accurate it stores your steps/aerobic steps/calories burned/fat burned and distance walked for 7 days and you can download it on to your computer so you can see what you've done where over the day/week/month/year.
The best thing is that you don't have to clip it to your hip. You can just put it in your pocket or bag and it still works as well. It also has a 4 second delay so doesn't record every time you move if you are sitting about not walking unlike most of them that randomly add steps everytime you move at all.
I recently trained for a 25 mile walk and found it really useful to keep upping my distances. There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0 -
I would second the Omron one..I have one and find it very accurate, and like the fact it can just go in my pocket rather than clip on

hope it helps0 -
Hi there below is a link dietandfitnessresources did on Pedometer accuracy.
http://www.dietandfitnessresources.co.uk/scales_monitors/pedometer-accuracy.htm
My Mum has the Omron HJ113E its great only problem you can't reset if you fancy,it resets its at midnight.
I have the Omron HJ109 slightly less accurate but a good guideline. Can't remember how much mine were but I know after googling I got them cheaper than shown on this website.

We've also been looking for an accurate pedometer.
We have ipod touch and iphone but don't really want to carry these in our pockets when we go for walks.
Regarding the links for Ormrod pedometers, do they measure in miles or kilometres? Would prefer distance in miles.0 -
Hi there Libra10
Its my Mum has the Omron Walking Style II we really are just interested in the steps so couldn't remember the whether it did miles or Km but the following link states KM (She doesn't live nearby otherwise I'd go and check). http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B000RXWVVQ/ref=cm_cr_dp_hist_3?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addThreeStar
I am currently using quite an old version the Omron HJ 105. It does miles but I wouldn't say it is as accurate with the steps. http://www.amazon.com/Omron-HJ-105-Pedometer-Calorie-Counter/dp/B00006WNPY
Good Luck0 -
Thanks for your reply slimsia. I'll have another look at the Ormron range.
Today we walked approx 2.5 miles and took an ipod touch with a free pedometer app installed. However, the reading of around 4000 steps was much less than it should have been.
I might invest in a new Ormrod pedometer, and convert km to miles later.0 -
My Omron is in km, but I find 2000 steps for me works out to a mile, or close enough, so I work out how many miles I walk from thatThere is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion0

I also have an Omron Walking Style II which was around the £15-mark on Amazon about a year ago. I use it for walking & jogging and it counts steps, aerobic steps, calories and distance in km. I highly recommend it.£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250
£2 Savers Club 2015 #8 £250£200 :j
