Beware of bringing in any electrical heaters or calor gas heaters with out the landlords permission. They will have to be checked and certified by a qualified electrician or corgi. This is to stop fires/explosions or injury to other residents in the building.

Unless landlord has given permission don't put up anything that will put holes in the walls/woodwork you could lose your deposit for it!

However there are things you can do to keep warm without causing any problems with deposits/safety risks.

    Windows:
    • get bubble wrap, cut to fit the pane of glass, spay window with water and stick bubble wrap on it, cant see out but a lot warmer.
    • fill any gaps with folder up newspaper and/or use silicone caulking (99p from 99p store) around the window where it opens to stop drafts. Can easily be removed next spring with no damage or in case of emergency exit.
    • cut a piece of bubble wrap to fit the whole window and attach with white tack either all round or just at the top so you can roll up (pegs hold in place) and see out if you haven't added bubble wrap to the glass
    • safety pin cheap fleece to curtain to retain heat too or even more bubble wrap
    Other ideas
    • Make draft excluder's for all doors, can use rolled up bubble wrap
    • rug on the floor where you sit of an evening, bubble wrap for that too but needs replacing when all bubbles popped!
    • blue tack will hold bubble wrap over drafty keyholes/letter boxes
    • blue tack on picture rail and skirting and attach bubble wrap in between to bubble wrap walls!
    • Can do this on doors/loft hatches too
No I don't own share in bubble wrap, it was all I could afford to buy when my baby brother went to uni and ended up in a freezing flat in a detached Victorian drafty house. The walls were always cold to touch.
The above made a massive difference to his heating bills and comfort and left no signs at all when he moved out.

my son has done the same things but has throws/wall hanging on the walls and also has tied dyed fabric going from the picture rails to central light to create a tented ceiling, helps to keep the heat at person height (he has ceilings which are 14' tall)

All I can think of at the moment
    xx
  • great tip on the bubblewrap, i never even thought of doing that (we have rolls of the stuff at work maybe i can take a cheeky bit of it, or at least buy it for cheap!)

i did wonder at first if you had some sort of bubblewrap company hehe :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

fillings cracks and crevices and such is probably going to be a great idea because all little tiny drafts that waft through make a big difference! once i get my slow cooker as well ill be able to walk in get a hot meal down my belly and feel happy with the heating on low and duvets galore! :D
