Unauthorized credit searches from DCA

I just used equifax to access my credit report and I am disturbed to find 5 unauthorized credit searches IN ONE MONTH from Capquest debt recovery LTD.
All of the searches are marked under table one (IE: credit searches in relation to credit applications) of my credit report and all of them are marked as either 'debt collection' or 'outstanding debt'.
As far as I am aware I do not have any account or debt with these people, and I was also under the impression that they needed my permission to actively search my credit file? And even if I did have an outstanding debt with them, surely they are not allowed to search my file 5 times in less than 5 weeks?
5 searches in one month is going to do serious damage to my credit rating is it not?
Has anyone here experienced similar problems, if so how did you deal with it?
Equifax are not replying to my customer service complaints and I am totally at a loss as to what to do.

The DCA's & CRA's are best buddies with each other - they are 2 cheeks of the same backside effectivley.
Their whole "set up" stinks and is rotten to the core in my view....
I would simply report both to every authority you can think of.0 -
They can check your file, when your account defaults the same rights are passed to the dca as the origional lender.0

What account is this then? I have no account with capquest and there is no information on the credit report telling me what the heck this is all about.
5 times in one month, is that not abusing the system?
In reply to the previous poster: who should I complain to?0 -
The OFT,trading standards,financial ombudsman etc.........0

my wife has got searches every month from 1st credit on her credit file with equifax and experian, it comes up as *unrecorded entry* which i dont believe has any impact on applications.
her searches relate to a debt from 9 years ago.
i would dispute the seacrhes directly with equifax / experian using there online disputes system.:j:beer: :j0 -
Perhaps if the CRA's actually grew some b*lls and stopped these DCA's from making all these searches when they felt like it then it wouldnt be as bad - but sadly they dont and are only too willing to assist them.0
