Problem with identifying myself - will I damage credit file?

Hello,
I'm planning to apply for a car PCP or lease about now and a mortgage in the near future. With this in mind, I applied for the £2 statutory credit reports from Experian and Equifax.
Neither company could identify me from the standard info and unfortunately I've not been able to identify myself to them since. The utility bills under two months old (their stipulation) are solely in my partner's name and I won't be "live" on the electoral register until November now.
I have a spotless credit history as far as I know, but I'm not sure that I have the means to prove to the credit companies that I exist at my present address!
Would I damage my credit record or prejudice future applications by applying now for credit, regardless of this?
Thanks

You might be able to get away with them checking you as a previous occupant at your old address on the voters role.
A bill of some kind would help though in your name.
Have you changed the address on your drivers licence??
I have recently got a car from Vauxhall and i'm not on the electoral role for this house - the paperwork for it is downstairs awaiting to be posted.
I had my driving licence with new address on (needed this anyway for them to let me take the car) and 1 electricity bill.
The credit company took my last 3 years worth of adresses and I was on the electoral role at that address.
Also, If possible I would try to get a mortgage before the car loan as mortgage companies check more into your income/outgoings for the amount they lend you than car credit companies/loans/credit cards etc.

How strange becasue i am in the same position!! I have been declined for a few things in the past and i thought it was becasue i have only been in the UK for 18 months (which it may still be) but i decided to get a copy of my credit report and when i called they said they were not able to tie me to this address and my husband called too and they said the same, despite being on the electoral register and my husband having Telewest and O2 accounts!! I am also wondering if that is the main reason i was declined.
We were also told to send in these documents so if we do in the next little while i will update you, would you do the same if you do please?
Good Luck!0 -
I'll change my drivers licence now!
The other problem with getting utility bills in my name is that we have on-line billing (hence no bills in last 2/3 months even if they were in my name!). Realistically, I can't see me getting a bill from them with my name on in the near future.
Thankfully my mortgage application is likely to be for less than 2 x annual income, so I don't think a relatively small (circa £200pcm) car payment would influence it too much and I don't have any other credit commitments.
I just hope that I don't somehow mess-up my file.0 -
Do you not have a Council Tax bill with your name on it?Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0

Yes, I do - but it's an annual bill, i.e. not dated in the last 2/3 months.0
