Identifying and getting a stain out of trousers

I don't know if any of you can help with this, but thought it was worth a shot.

My son has some beige coloured NIKE trousers, they have a stain at the front thigh and also some on the back, looks like he might have sat on something but don't really know how it got on the front, but anyway not even sure what the strain is, I washed them and it didn't come out and is kind of dark and feels a bit stiff, wondering if it could be oil, tar or chewing gum even?

Any ideas on what it could be and also how to get it out? The trousers are hardly worn, but unwearable as the strain really shows when they are on.

Thank you! :D

first thing i would try is soap - give it a good rub with your ordinary soap then use a nailbrush to work it in. then chuck it in with ordinary wash.
if this doesnt work and it still feels stiff - I would suspect its a tar substance - stain devils do a tar remover - but my mum just used to rub butter on tar stains - not sure if it would work after a couple of washes but you could try it.
I cant think of anything else hun - hope one of these works for you!

Try oil of Eucalyptus which is great for getting out stains of unknown origin particularly tar etc and won`t make stain worse. Available at chemists about £1. Will get rid of your cold at the same time- you`ll recognize the smell!

Wow, never knew this! Always have Eucalyptus oil in for when little one has a cold (she had drops in her baths this very evening!) and love a few drops in a carrier oil for baby massage. Quick question if I may, how would you use it as a stain remover? Do you dab it on or soak in water with a few drops? Very new to OS ways so sorry if its a stupid q!
  • Thanks everyone, will give the soap a try first, and if that doesn't work will move on to the Eucalyptus. Will let you know how we get on.

Re dying clothes, would the colour run if they got wet, or can you buy colourfast dye? Thanks

I would dab at it direct from the bottle and then wash as usual.

i use dyes all the time when white / beige stuff goes a little grey..

i use dylon machne dyes and they work great - and wash perfectly afterwards in the machine with a mixed colour wash...

  • i find that ACE Bleach usually works. had to tackle a greasy stain on beige trousers today and it lifted it first time.
