Being sacked... .

A friend of mine (seriously, not me...!) has been working full time in a restaurant for about nine months. A new assistant manager started about a month ago, trying to impose himself and has started a few arguments with members of staff. Anyway, at the weekend, my friend was told that although she is very good at her job, good with customers and works well with the rest of the team, that because of the personality clash with the assistant manager, he had to be fired. Can they do that...? Can you just fire someone because you don't get on with them...? Any advice would be appreciated please... .

Until she has been working there a year she can't claim unfair dismissal, so I suppose they can do that. That's not to stop her protesting in the strongest terms re the Assistant Manager; is there anyone else in the same situation so they could both/all approach the Manager?Torgwen..........

Bit confused....who got fired, your friend (she) or the manager (he).David333 wrote:........Anyway, at the weekend, my friend was told that although she is very good at her job, .............because of the personality clash with the assistant manager, he had to be fired.0 -
I have seen this happen in the hospitality industry to several people, seems there are lots of jumped up idiots promoted to management positions with no people skills. They can't see they are losing good staff but fortunately there are always lots of jobs to move onto and it doesn't seem to matter that you have been sacked.0

It happens in all industries not just hospitality.
As others have said, if she has less than one years service then basically there is nothing she can do. If she has more than one years service then there could be a case for unfair dismissalAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Sorry, she was fired! Mistyped! Thanks for your advice... . Seems strange that you have to be there for a year in order to have a case for unfair dismissal... .0
