I was told about this website last night and was very impressed when I decided to try it out...

You can set up radio stations by enterig an artist or song and it will generate a play list of songs which are musically similar and let you play and rate those songs. If you rate a particular song as good - you will hear more music just like that...!
You do need a broadband connection for this and macromedia flash v7 upwards

Why is everyone suddenly talking about Pandora? Has their been an article or something?
There are tips about getting the best out of Pandora here.
I've been using this desktop app for Pandora for a wee while now0 -

Hi DisneyKatie - thanks for your comments - I did a bit of researching into SHOUTcast - mainly on the wikipedia... The main difference (I could be wrong on this - so don't shout at me if I am!) is that while other internet radio sites are mixed by other people - the songs selected depending on the dj's view - the songs on pandora are determined by a mathmatical analysis of the actual music.
The result should be a whole bunch of songs which are musically similar to your original choice (be it artist or specific track) - and it's never the same playlist twice - though you may get a re-occurance of songs...
The actual purpose of it is to sell you music by subjecting you to music that is similar to music that you like - but if you can resist buying the new tracks you've just heard - it's basically just a whole load of free music at a good bitrate (128kbs)!
I've been listening to it since I got back from work today and have found a few more tracks that I like...!

Re-opening up an old thread here. . . I've been using Yahoo Launchcast for many years. It's excellent although for the last few months 'unskippable' ads occur every ten to fifteen minutes. Today I was warned that I had exceeded my 'monthly usage limit'. I didn't know I had one? So now I can't listen to music on it and I was looking for another player to use. Shame really, as I've already rated over 5000 songs on Launchcast, though I still find it plays a lot of stuff I don't like.
I looked into this Pandora service but they now say it's only for USA users. Any other recommendations?0 -
Pandora all the way for me, but you might need some help from here. I actually use Hotspot Shield - but only when I want to listen.
As this site says, LastFM is also pretty good if you want an alternative without any faffing about.
Hope that helps,
Regards,

My husband and signed up after getting zip codes of the net for firms in the US but after a while they had us sussed as they recognised that your IP address is not in the US and cancelled our accounts but they are polite and say they will let you know when thet are available over here.0
