How do I know it's been Scotchgarded?

Hi everyone,
I've recently bought a sofa from DFS and paid an extra £40 to ensure that the leather is scotchgarded.
It arrived this morning and looks great but the delivery did not include any information on this and there were no labels on to say that the leather had been treated. All that came was a 'natural leather care' pack from DFS.
Should I have some evidence to say it has been treated or am I over reacting? I have heard of horror stories whereby people are charged for something like this only to find a few years down the line that in fact they did not get what they paid for. Any advice greatly welcomed.

In an inconspicuous, unless you're feeling very brave, area pour a small amount of water on. If it beads up and just wipes off without leaving any mark then the thing has been treated.

You should receive a warranty for the scotchguard treatment with contact details should you have any future issues.
I had exactly the same thing with DFS some years back so phoned them and they sent me the warranty - still doesn't prove it was actually treated but when I did get a bad stain a year later I contacted them and they sent me various removers to treat it with.0 -
Chuck a bucket of water over it - if it soaks in, it's not been scotchguarded."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I will phone DFS back today. I did test a very small area and the water did pool up but sun wiped away it did leave a wet mark. It's gone after 4 hours. Does this sound like it has been treated or would you expect this from a normal leather sofa?0

Leather? I think you've wasted your money there. Anthing gets spilt on leather, it's easy to just wipe off. Even if something stick gets stuck to it, it's normaliy easy to get off. I've had a leather sofa for over 10 years."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
Maninthestreet you are right. I just called them up and the scotchguard was only for the fabric chair and pillows that we ordered at a cost of £35. We also bought the leather cleaning kit for £25.
The lady told me that they weren't able to scotchgard any leather at DFS. Anybody else any thoughts? Does this sound like, well sound info from DFS?0 -
i wouldnt think there would be any point scotchguarding leather, as someone said before, its already waterproof. Unless its suade leather....in which case i suppose it would be possible0

i purchased the anti stain protection policy from DFS that was supposed to be a protective spray like scothc guard
not convinced that my sofa had been sprayed i complained to the shop and head office
they told me that leather sofas couldnt be sprayed only fabric ones
mine is half and half
so maybe yours hasnt been sprayed........like minwe nit what they tell you when selling it to you though is it?
i went through financial ombudsman when i got no where with dfs0 -
Don't pour anything on the leather !!!!!!!!!!!!
The leather hasn't been treated with anything extra, what you have paid for is a maintance service so if any stains do develop over the covered period they will come and take care of them. When I worked there it was called a Cherish Guarantee and you should have been given a box with the details and some cleaning materials specially formulated for the care of leather. If you are unsure call the store and ask for the proper details.0 -
where you went wrong to start with was to buy a suite from dfs...but thats another thread altogether0
