Has anyone sucessfully used pine cones as kindling on their open fire? Do they spit? There are loads on the ground where I walk my dog and you know what us money savers are like? - Too good an opportunity to pass up!

I know there are people here on OS that use pinecones for kindling. I've also seen something about dipping them in wax from the ends of candles for the same reason.
If I were you. I'd collect them and even if you don't use them on the fire, they look good in a bowl as decoration!0 -
We used to burn them through the winter after drying them out in the shed: I don't remember any misadventure.I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0

Thanks folks - I sometimes wonder if I'm going too far in my quest to be really o.s. I've already been collecting sticks from the woods where I walk. So many things for free, blackberries, rowan berries, rosehips - oh the fun I have!! I love this site.0
