Without asking the company is there any way to confirm i was not dismissed for gross misconduct? nothing as such was mentioned in meeting. Infact very little was said at all, hence my complete confusion to where i stand.

When do the schools go back?

    1. is it a company phone?!
    2. was u using a work email to access/apply for jobs?
    3. did u query the 'notice' period when they told u to leave?

sounds like u were sacked, but what for exactly?!

    1. my own phone, nothing to do with company,
    2. my own private email
    3. was told we would like you to leave now, i said what? today? now? this was very early in the convo, i was too shocked to bring up anything else because they stood up after saying it. felt very uncomfortable because it was supposed to be a review meeting. The things other people did there and got away with constanstly, left me not worrying about being sacked, since i never felt i did anything wrong anyway.

The only information i have on notice period is from an email between me and person who sacked me, from roughly two weeks prior.
  • Something very similar happened to my other half a few years ago. He had been working for a company for about two months when they hauled him in one morning and told him to leave. When he asked why they said he didn't have the right attitude. He was then escorted off the premises (which were incidentally in the middle of nowhere so I had to leave work to pick him up).

We never got to the bottom of what really happened - he had spent some time checking his personal email and we guessed this was what the problem was, but they never said. They never paid him the notice period or sent him the personal things he'd left at work when he left. Anyway after a lot of heartache and speaking to the CAB about the money - they agreed he was entitled to a weeks pay and we could have gone back to the office to get his things - we decided he just had to put the experience behind him for both of our peace of mind. He got some temping and voluntary work to get references and he had some interview coaching to help him work out what to say in future interviews.

I have to say the whole thing really knocked his confidence but the temping did help - both in terms of the reference and the fact that as a temp you don't have to get involved in office politics.

Don't know if this helps but I thought I'd share our experience. :)

so how did they find out about the jobs? did u have any of those work ppl on FB, e.t.c?!

it all sounds mishmash and made up. sounds like they didnt really have anything to really apprehend u over?!

thanks for that bluecastle very helpful comments i must say. Think temping might be an idea since i dont know what to do for work anyway!

I have no idea how they found out, but i had spoke to one person about it as a job for one of our contractors appeared and i thought that was interesting enough to mention. Because at the time was only the two of us in office and she hated the company and work as much as me, and she had mentioned applying for other jobs to..... so think she perhaps mentioned it to others either on purpose or accidently. who knows.
  • One thing I think we can say with certainty - you WERE sacked!

I would ask for your week's notice - if they come back and say you were dismissed for GM you can decide what to do next.

note, when looking for/applying for other jobs. NEVER mention it to anyone associated with where you work.

you'd be suprised at the amount of ppl that will 'lead' u in a convo... they will say 'im looking for other jobs, i hate it here', then u carry on stating the same. they then go behind your back saying 'so and so said...'.

always keep your mouth shut with things like that. people arent what they 'seem'.
