Floatation of Norwich Union

Options
I have joint life mortgage endowment policy with the Norwich Union which was taken out in 1988. It came with a Woolwich Mortgage.

I have been told that NU issued shares to policyholders in around 1996 when they floated. Can anyone enlighten me as to if I should have been informed of any entitlement.

If they knew your address, then yes they would have informed you, if you were entitled. If you were not getting annual statements on the endowment, then that is a good clue that they didnt know your address.

Having a policy does not automatically entitle you to a demutualisation benefit. You need to be in the with profits fund to qualify and not in unit linked funds.

It is worth investigating as NU did pay out some rather large amounts.
