Please can someone tell me why this was a scam, as I have given them my details?
    Thanks

Quite simply, they will take your money and you won't get your goods.

This is how this scammer works:

First, they upload an average looking plausible website advertising desirable goods at too-good to be true prices. These are normally given 'catchy' website addresses.

Then, they get their website listed on LOTS of search engines.

Joe Public helps them with their scam by posting Grabbit deals on forums like this one.

Next, they take a lot of orders for expensive electrical goods at unmissable prices.

Having followed a 'pretend' order through to completion, it is evident that this particular scam works by the 'London Sales Office' phoning you up when you have placed your order, to get your card details and give you a 'delivery date'.

Neat. They steal your card details, security code and your cardholder name and address, opening the way for them to empty your bank account or credit card. As they phone you up, you have no idea where they are phoning from or who the company is!!!

They collect the money for orders for a few days, but don't deliver any goods.

As soon as people start to contact them by email to complain, they drop that site and start another one.

The website registrant names and addresses are false, as are the apparent business addresses. This particular one had a 'London sales office', a 'head office address' which is actually the HQ of Bradford & Bingley (previous ones have been Natwest branches, HSBC branches etc) and a fake website registrant, who in this case was some unsuspecting person in the West Country.

The money is laundered and disappears...

IF YOU HAVE PLACED AN ORDER WITH THEM, YOU MUST CONTACT YOUR CARD ISSUER IMMEDIATELY TO REPORT FRAUD, BLOCK YOUR CARD AND STOP THE PAYMENT. PROBABLY TOO LATE FOR THE LATTER.

Thanks for this information. I actually never gave my card details just anme address and telephone number!!! Should I still be worried or am I alright as long as I dont give my card details??
    thanks
  • And the Scam continues......

posting #3 in this thread cross-refers to a posting on "HotUKDeals"

"Apparently this is a genuine cheap panasonic viera 42"

    http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/6125/...c-42-viera-hd-"

and in that HotUKDeals discussion there is reference to Panasonic Viera available cheaper:

    "found the 600 version cheaper:

    http://www.audiovisual123.co.uk/cube...d&productId=76

    £899"

Which has all the characterstics of the original scam

e.g. Domain name only registered 4 September 2006

and users reporting website will not accept credit cards

.......... if I recall the original scammers would then invite you to call to order and then pay by bank transfer.

Not blaming you in the slightest - they just rely on bargain hunters to unknowingly spread the word for them!
