Yep... I'm guessing the problem was that you had the cheapest quote for your old car, but were then tied to that insurer when you changed to the Punto. And this insurer isn't so competetive on that car.
You're completely right - if you cancelled now you'd still have to pay for the rest of the policy anyway, plus cancellation fees! So stick with it, then change to the cheapest policy for your new circumstances when the time comes
