Bristolian bankrupt - help!

Options
Hey all, any help on the below query will be greatly appreciated.

After 9 months of trying every available alternative, including living at home rent-free and fun-free, I have finally thrown in the towel and have an appointment for bankruptcy in Bristol tomorrow morning.

I'm really nervous about it and was wondering if anyone had been through the same things and could advise on how the appointment works?

I've spoken to CCCS and have all my paperwork ready, but in terms of how it works and how long it takes it obviously varies from court to court.

Any Bristolians out there who can help a very nervous BR-2-B?

Hi, I'm not from Bristol but just wanted to reassure you that it will be ok.

We were at court for around an hour and half in total, most of which was spent sitting around waiting.

We got to the court and gave over our forms which were checked and then handed over the money, we then waited to see the judge, we were in with him for about 5 mins, he signed them, we then waited around again for a bit, the clerk came back took us to a room we talked to the OR assistant briefly then headed out into a cold December day, to the nearest pub for a big breakfast!!

It was a very surreal day tbh, not nearly as bad as we thought it would be!

    Try not to worry x

As said, you will be absolutely fine, i didnt do mine Bristol but I was onyl across the way in Bath. I hnded the forms over and saw the judge, who was actually lovely and gave me lots of re-assurance, I was only in court for half an hour. I also went for a nice big breakfast afterwards.

I know nothing everyone says will make it feel better, I was so nervous while I was ther but trust me, afterwards you'll wonder what the worry was for!

    Good luck for tomorrow! x
  • Thanks for the reassurance, I can't wait to get it over and done with! Debt has dominated my life for the past 3 years and I'm sure it's contributed to all sorts of health problems. I've tried everything to keep up, even reduced £25k debt to £16k, but I'm all out of options now. Will never buy anything on credit again!

    Hi Trix.
Went BR in Bristol in May.
Done it before about 15 years ago so was expecting the book to be thrown at me!
Dont worry, you'll go into a small office to get your paperwork checked at 10.30, had a bit of a laugh and joke with the girl checking (few spelling mistakes) and paid the money.
Then told to come back at 12.00 for paperwork.
Of the six people I was with none got to see the judge so walked away a few mins later.
Got a call from OR 2 weeks later, nice bloke went through paperwork again and have not heard a thing since!
    So i'm lying low now.
Dont lose any sleep over it!
I've been through a lot worse things.
    Good luck xx
  • Hi there, we also went BR in Bristol, as above, we showed up, a woman behind a counter went through our forms, we the handed over the money. We're told to come back 2 hrs later, which we did, and were handed the forms that the judge had stamped declaring us BR. The OR assistant us that PM to make an official telephone interview time for the next day., that took 20 mins each, and the rest is history. Not half as bad as we'd imagined, so try and stay calm x
  • Hi there
I went bankrupt in Bristol and was really so surprised at how it worked. Checked my paperwork in over the counter at 9.30 on a Friday morning, staff were so non judgemental and helpful. Was told to come back at 11.30 for paperwork and when I returned I was given the bankruptcy order and left.

Although this was in 2008 I still remember how awful I felt the night before, so please if I can give you any advice it would be dont worry get some sleep it will all soon be over and its not as you imagine it. You will be just fine, dont lose anymore sleep :) Good Luck!

  • Just wanted to say thanks again to all who replied. Due to a paperwork issue, I had to postpone the appointment to today but I'll done it, had my certificate AND my o/r interview, all in one day!

It was no way as bad as I feared and I really hope, once all this is over, I can help other girls in my position.

The only thing I wish I'd done differently is taken someone with me to keep me calm. There were three other people queueing for BR and they all had friends/partners, whereas I was on my own. I've only told two people about this and I don't know why. I guess I still feel really guilty.

So if anyone ever needs someone to buy them coffee and hand them cigarettes during a Bristol BR appointment, just give me a PM!

really glad you've come through your appointment ok:)

i'm about to ring my court this morning for an appointment - they said sometimes they'll see you on a walk in basis but sometimes turn you away! i think i'll make a def appointment rather than risk psyching myself up and be turned away!

just got to get the forms filled in......
