Stretch Marks

Options
Hi all!

Just after a bit of advice! Does anyone know the best way to get rid of stretch marks (home remedies or shop bought, I don't mind!)??

I've recently lost quite a lost of weight (about 2 dress sizes) and although I have been exercising a lot and so don't have loose skin, I have noticed quite a few stretch marks on my hips and boobs and would love to reduce the appearence of them! I cover them up with fake tan at the moment which seems to work ok but I'd like something to reduce them permenantly if any such thing exists!!

Any help would be appreciated!!

Prevention is better than cure im afraid.

    WIKIPEDIA: "

Though cocoa butter is an effective moisturizer, no research studies have shown its ability to either prevent stretchmarks, or to reduce their appearance once a stretch mark has already formed [10]
Various treatments are available for the purpose of improving the appearance of existing stretch marks, including laser treatments, dermabrasion, and prescription retinoids. Some cream manufacturers claim the best results are achieved on recent stretch marks; however, few studies exist to support these claims.
A study in the journal Dermatologic Surgery showed that radiofrequency combined with 585-nm pulsed dye laser treatment gave "good and very good" subjective improvement in stretch marks in 33 of 37 patients, although further studies would be required to follow up on these results. In addition, the use of a pulsed dye laser was shown to increase pigmentation in darker skinned individuals with repeated treatments.

You could try moisturiser but i doubt it'll do much

    sorry! xx
  • I've heard 'Bio-Oil' recommended for reducing scarring/skin tone issues/stretchmarks etc. I know there's a cheapo version called 'Rescue Oil' which the pound type shops stock. I've had stretchmarks on my bottom/hips since I was a teenager - I shot up like a beanpole at 16 then suddenly developed curves, it was quite a shock from bring the one of the smallest girls in my year!!! They do fade over the years, mine are whitish and hardly noticeable now.
  • Another vote for Bio-Oil.

Stretch marks are impossible to get rid of (like scars) but they will improve and fade over time. The key is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! This will keep your skin as supple as possible and prevent the situation from getting any worse.

I moisturise in the morning and evening and use Bio-oil on alternate days. I do reccommend shelling out for Bio-oil, but I use cheaper moiustrisers, mostly cocoa or shea based.

Good luck, and congratulations on your weight loss.
