Use the heat from gas pilot lights

I read this tip from 'tips and wrinkles' that i picked up at the local jumble sale yesterday.
Place a firebrick over the gas pilot light on the cooker when the ring is not in use/overnight. The brick will absorb and store the heat and can then be used to keep a pot warm.
I've not tried this out ( i've not got a gas hob), but would if i could!
Thought it sounded like a great money-saving tip!

Blimey I didn't even know you could buy cookers with pilot lights, sounds like a terrible waste of energy to me!
