Pensions are a sticky wicket these days, I pay in extra years to make up my shortfall as i joined the NHS in my early 30's.

As you are leaving you don't have that option, are you able to pay in lump sums in order to buy extra years, the best person to talk to would be your pensions officer at work, they have an incredible knowledge about their own pension scheme, my employer never told anybody that joined the pension lte that they could make up to allow them to have a 40 year pension without working 40 years, I pay £216 pcm till I retire for an extra 10 yrs pension.
