custom made wedding dress china?

has anyone ordered a custom made dress from china. There are a few on ebay now. In the past I have ordered 'day' dresses (retro styled) from a tailor overseas via ebay (toprunway) they turned out absolutely brilliant. I am checking but I don't think they do wedding dresses.

So I am thinking of ordering my dress custom made from china. I know with ebay you need to look for really rave reviews not just positive then you are pretty safe (I think).

Anyone done this any recommendations?

thanks

I would advise asking the girls on the wedding forum.

I ordered my BM dresses from a China seller last year and they were fine.

Lots of girls on the wedding forum order from there too, I just fell too in love with the original when I tried it on in the shop (I did get £200 off for buying the shop sample tho so still MSE:money:)

Oh, and congratulations - it really will be the best day of your life :D

I did some alterations on a wedding dress that was bought on ebay from a seller in china, my client had sent her sizes online and the dress was made to order...it was a bit big for her (hense my work!) but the quality of the dress for the price was amazing!
    Congratulations and good luck!

I got mine from Landy last year - £150 for dress and lace jacket and it was stunning - it was the talk of the day and no one guessed the cost or where it was from.

I got it taken up a bit by a dressmaker and she said the fabric was amazing for the price, really heavy satin. I loved it and felt amazing in it

I echo the thread in the wedding section, have a good read before makign any decisions.

At least it was too big and not too small.

  • Not exactly the same, but my cousin bought a prom dress from a chinese seller on ebay, made to order. It was a beautiful ballgown, with a corset style top and a big skirt, with lots of beads and intricate detail. It took over 6 weeks to arrive, but fit perfectly and was really really good quality.

A lot of the wedding dresses by top designers and other clothes are made in factories in China, small hands are handy for hand stitching and embroidery.

If you see something with "Hand Finished in Italy" it usually means that the designers name label has been stitched in Italy but the garment made in China.

I would second Milly Bridal as a recommendation. After ALOT of researching on another forum, i went to them to custom make me a dress that was discontinued. Cost me £189 and was absolutely amazing. Looked much more expensive, everyone commented on how beautiful it was and noone guessed. Even the dressmaker lady who took up the hem for me (lost more weight and it got a bit long for me!), couldnt believe the workmanship and quality of material.

    Tips tho'
-DO get some one else to measure you, and do it twice to double check the measurements. Trying to do it yourself is a recipe for disaster.

-Work out in advance what heel height you are going to go for, as it will affect your dress length. Work out what bra/corset , undergarment you are going to go for, so you can double check it will work under the dress.

-If you are well endowed up top, ask for a few extra bones to support you. They did that free of charge for me.

-If your dress has a train, ask them to do a bustle loop to tie your dress up for the evening so you dont struggle.

-Do leave plently of time, Milly get extraordinarily busy, so allow a good 6-9 months.

    - DO give them a wedding date at least 2 months before your real one, as it will help prevent coronaries on your part if they get behind. They will work on dresses in urgency order when busy, so if your wedding is 3 months away, they will do one 2 months away first, even if you ordered first

-DO plan for some alterations. You may not need them, esp if your measurements were very good, you go for corset back, and/or if your weight is likely to be very stable, in which case quids in. But it may need some tweaks so find a good alterations place in advance, and make allowance for the cost just in case. 9/10, it will still be many £100's of pounds cheaper including alterations, than buying from a bridal shop. I paid £80 to have it taken up 3", so still a bargain compared to the £1400 for the original dress.

    - Be very clear on what you ask them, and use simple english. Annotations on a picture are helpful, intead of trying to explain stuff in words.

    - Dont be afraid to chase them up and ask things, but be very nice and polite. Lots of girls get stressy and then rude, which doesnt help much. I was nice as pie, and had a very easy experience!

Hope that helps, feel free to PM if you have questions. Happy to email pics of my dress for people to see an example!
