Actually, Jazz and I haven't had our heating on since April. Warmth and regular meals just aren't luxuries we can afford these days (although I ALWAYS make sure that Jasper is fully-fed and warm before I shift for myself. After all, my past decisions aren't HIS fault) ...
But - no worries! He is all I need to make me happy. One meal per day is just fine for me, and candles provide warmth and light on the winter nights (and I always did want to be Jane Austen...). Compared to some, I'm lucky. I rarely (usually, except today, when my rat-b*st*rd car insurance was due for renewal, I got my water bill, the invoice for when my car exhaust fell off last week, and an overdue payment reminder from the vets, in the mail - ALL ON THE SAME DAY
) think about what I DON'T have - I focus on, and am grateful for, what I DO have. Compared to some poor s*ds in this World, I live a life of luxury - and I'm thankful for that.
Positioned safely, candles are the time-tested heroes of heat and light. Put 'em in front of a mirror to double the light-impact.
And - when Jasper is elsewhere with his "dog-sitter/acolyte" - candle-light can be INCREDIBLY romantic as well...
