I just thought maybe this should be in the home board
but this board does seem to have a lot of useful tips on it0 -
Hopefully it was blotted up before using a diluted washing up liquid solution?
Did you then rinse out the w.up.liq solution? You may need to rinse several times with warm water.
If it persists, try using a solution of 2Tbsps of household amonia (chemists or traditional hardward shop) per 250ml of water. Then, rinse thoroughly. After, blot the stain with a solution of 1:2 white vinegar and water. Again, rinse thoroughly. Tedious, but worthwhile.

thanks I'll try that
I did wonder if it was washing up residue that was causing the stain0
