I'd never heard of those, but it looks like a fun day out, sadly I don't yet have a bike but will def think about it when I do.

I need a bike to do that (the bike that was stolen from me would be great...) I am wary of signing up for the rent-a-bike Boris bikes as there have been tales in the paper of overcharging, it was sorted out but as I live within inches of debt (not allowed credit facility) I just can't risk it.
Also doubt there will be any Boris-Bikes left by the time I get out of bed!
Does sound like a nice thing to do though and a good family day out.

I've never heard of Boris Bikes. I got mine though the Cycle to Work Scheme.

I've got a few friends who have just taken up cycling and they got their bikes for free. One from Freecycle and the other put a plea for help on their FB page and another friend who was moving gave them their old bike.

Never heard of the Boris Bikes?? (your not from London then? ;))

    Here is a link: http://www.borisbikes.co.uk/
    http://www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/cycling/14808.aspx

Did try for a few years to ask for a bike on Freecycle but everyone else is too and no bikes have been offered (or like 2 every 3 years, one being a childs bike) so gave up the ghost. Its easier to get a Laptop on freecycle I think!!

Not going to get myself another bike full stop- they just get stolen, had a friend who had 4 stolen in a year! All D-Locked AND chain locked, one was even outside a police station! I thought about bendy bikes but I live in an area where everything is a hill (like 18%+ gradients!) so need decent sized wheels.

There is nowhere safe to lock anything, my last bike was stolen from outside the station- they took the entire bike rack. Police did nothing and the bike rack is still there (it moves position every week or so). With scammers that evil I cannot afford to chance it which is a shame.

If I can get hold of a bike we've got a locked shed in the garden and I work on a secure campus so barring utter stupidity on my part it should be safe enough, although I don't actually live in London but about 30 mins out by train, I do like the idea of exploring the city by bike.

I you do intend going to any of the SkyRide events tomorrow and intend bringing your own bike, if it's of exceptional value or not, then don't forget to lock it well if you’re going to leave it somewhere for some time.

Richmond Cycles sent me this video in an email sometime ago which might be worth checking out.
