Oh I'm glad I didn't have any students in the room. It's an embarrasing enough procedure as it is. I had the doc, a nurse and a technician. Did you watch the whole thing on the TV screen? The nurse was very nice, held my hand when I gasped with cramps when it went around corners but it was all over quickly - was a long wait before and after though just to keep my nerves on edge!
Yeah long wait for me too, I arrived at 2:30pm and didn't go into the room until 4:45pm. The cramps are painful, I think I gripped the bed during the worst moments. Aren't your relieved it's all over and done with?
They didn't find anything major but they took a biopsy and I have 8 weeks to go for the outpatient appointment and results on that.
Good luck with that!I'm also on a waiting list for an endoscopy at the moment too.. but the lists are long so I've got a while before I start worrying about the trauma of that one and at least it's not so embarrassing!
I'd suggest getting sedated for that one, my mum had it done a few years ago and sedation is best.
Take care!

never done without sedation - don't worry0 -
Endoscopy although unpleasant does not last more than a few mins...You have your throat sprayed to numb it and have the choice of sedation also( you will need somebody to get you home if you have the sedation).
We could have had a family outing but the dates where all different.... the scores are out of 4...1 sedation and 3 just the throat spray....afterthoughts where the 1 sedated would always have sedation the other 3 would stick with the throat spray if we had to repeat the procedure again. Mrs H0 -
YOu can request that NO students be present. It should state that on the letter you receive - if not, just have a word with the nurse when you arrive:)0

Hi mr_rush,
When you say an endoscopy is never done without sedation I'd love to say that's the case but it's not always - I was bullied and tricked into not getting sedated and told it wasn't necessary only a few months ago so I'd suggest that anyone going for one does not allow this to happen to them and insists on sedation. I know others who have had this procedure and it's fine with the sedation so I'm still angry about how I was treated now. Good luck with it and the results from your sigmoidoscopy too athravan - I've also had one of these last month (just got my outpatients appt for the end of January!!)
