Tesco Clubcard Exchange query

Does anyone know if the vouchers in the Clubcard Exchange are valid for buying DVD players? We asked at the Customer (dis)service desk and were told they were, so changed some, but on reading through the information it would appear this isn't the case.

The vouchers we were given were for House, home and DIY - these cover some electrical goods but it seems only domestic appliances which I don't think a DVD player would be...

I have a feeling that Tesco staff don't seem to know much about this scheme - my partner's mother exchanged some to buy cat food online (she walks with crutches so can't buy it in store). She was told by the people at the CS desk this would be allowable but it says in the book she got with the vouchers that it wasn't...

First, your vouchers - you will find DVD players in the store in the Electrical Dept., so not included in the Clubcard Voucher Exchange. Surprised the Store thought it would be ok, the House, home & Diy only covers small electrical appliances - that you find in that Dept., e.g. toasters, kettles, microwaves, shavers etc. Such examples are given in the leaflet that came with the Aug vouchers and available in store.
Secondly, ref your partner's mother, cat food no problem - comes under 'Pets', on-line no problem - ensure the Voucher Exchange is for 'on-line' and 'Pets'. Aargh - see what you mean with the exclusion. Suggestion, rather than ordering with Tesco Direct, try via Tesco Grocery Home Shopping (GHS) where pet food should be included.

  • Yup, your reading of it ties in with mine which makes it annoying that we've wasted £10 of clubcard vouchers that we now have no use for...

Even worse for her mother - she changed about £75 of vouchers (10 cats...) and is seemingly going to lose them as well.

In both cases the specific item and purchase method the vouchers were intended for was made clear when they were being exchanged so it's not as if we've got the vouchers on the off chance and have been caught out...
  • Should add by the way that it would be clearer if the House / home section specified it was not the electrical department - to the layman a DVD player would be considered to be for the home and therefore would fall under that category.

If I'd had the leaflet I'd have queried this myself but I've not had one yet and to someone non-technical like my partner the difference between electrical and for the home isn't necessarily obvious, especially when some electrical appliances are included in the home section.

What you could try, is when you are in the store next - and try for a quiet period when the staff aren't feeling too harassed, explain that you asked advice previously, nevertheless the vouchers given aren't applicable for what you (both) sought - and can they be converted into a 'moneycard please. If they say 'no' too quickly ask they would check with 'store support' for definative advice. One can but try.
Failing that - the vouchers, can be returned to clubcard who will credit you back with the 'points' value.

  • Well I've tried twice to exchange some clubcard vouchers into clothing vouchers this week. Both times have failed. The first time I was told that my vouchers had already been used either online or on another deal. I queried this with clubcard, they said that they had been suspended when I tried (and failed) to use my vouchers on a Tesco Direct purchase in May. They then re-instated them.

I tried again to use some of my vouchers. After scanning the vouchers, the girl said, "oh there's an error, I'll try again." She did, and got the error message again. Rang clubcard, they found that when they went through the checkout to get them exchanged, they had been cancelled then. I was left with two options, go back to the store and try and get them converted to a gift card, or wait for them to be rolled over in my November mailing. However, I have lost the opportunity to get them exchanged into clothing vouchers.

I never have this problem with Nectar!
