If you fancy giving your air conditioning system a quick clean out of all those nasty bacteria, pop down to your local Poundland. They currently have stock of a cleaner (CarPlan) with a nice citrus smell for guess what, yep, £1.00!

I remember buying similar stuff last year from Halfords at nearly £14 quid icon_redface.gif

Does the job, and leaves your car lemony fresh Thumbsup1.gif

Dead easy to use - just run your engine, put your AirCon on full blast, switch it to recirculation mode, place aerosol on floor, press button - return to car in 10 minutes, all done.

Yeh this was posted a few weeks ago on hukd, the Halfords one is made by CarPlan, I paid £5 for that one off ebay delivered, so 5 of these is much better value! Bought a few this time round. The one off ebay didn't really work, but I am going to try what someone suggested. Remove the pollen filter and spray it up there as that is where the smell is.
  • If you have a pollen filter in your car, this could well be the source of any smell you may have. The filter itself is very fine and can capture particles as small as 3 microns. If not changed at manufacturers intervals, it can become the cause of whiffs and smells as bacteria can then grow.

Being a 'money saving forum' though, I would suggest giving your filter a good vacuum, then maybe a liberal spraying of Febreeze Anti-Bacterial, before forking out for a new filter. Knowing car manufacturers, they are likely to sting quite hard for a new filter!

Or to save even more money chuck the old filter in the bin and don't fit a new one...............

Like your thinking, but maybe not entirely a good idea in this case. Car makers often duplicate the use of this filter to stop debris etc. falling into the AirCon system. Without it, something could find its way into the system and cause a very expensive repair!!
