problem with loan taken out for ex partner - help!

Hi,

this is the first time i've posted a new thread so i hope this is on the right board. i've just split up with my partner after being together for 5 years. i'm trying to sort out all the admin even though it hurts to do so. he has a default so was unable to get credit, i (foolishly) took out a loan for him and also have a couple of payday loans for him. he's now refusing to pay these. i feel really stupid, i'm an intelligent girl and never thought we'd split up. i have my own loan to pay out as well as the usual monthly outgoings and simply cannot afford to pay this.

does anyone have any suggestions? i've tried speaking to him but unfortunately this hasn't worked. should i consult citizens advice or basically, have i just hung myself out to dry and try and pay these by myself?

any help would be appreciated.

x

Unfortanely I did the same thing - why I will never know. But I am now older and wiser, lol.

I spoke to a solicitor and (depending on the amount) the only thing you can do is go to a small claims court, but it probably wont be worth it.

Hope your ok get it sorted sooner rather than later x

collectively, there's about £3k outstanding. if i had the money, i wouldn't be worrying. i never thought i'd be in this position or that someone that i loved could do this to me! i feel like kicking myself! x

If the loans are in your name, then it's you, unfortunately, the companies will chase. If he refuses to pay you for them then there is nothing you can do, except as Northern Las says, go to the small claims court. but is it worth the hassle?

Sorry to be harsh, but has he left anything at your place? If so, sell it, and put it towards the debts.

If you take out a debt in your name, it's legally your debt. With the exception of turning up in front of his friends and shaming him into offering the contents of his wallet by pointing out that he is a low-life scumbag who cons women into paying for him, there is very little you can do. But if there anything he has left behind, sell it.

Taking on debt for a third party is never a good choice, even if you love them very much. There is usually a reason they couldn't get credit.....

    Good luck xx

Yeah its an awful feeling to know someones done that to you. Is it worth leaving it a few weeks and trying to reason with him?

Mine was £7k and he walked away with the car it bought too

i'm going to try and reason with his better nature (it's under all that rubbishness somewhere!), he's not left much stuff, some clothes, a multi gym and mountain bike that i'll gumtree and a few cds. he took the car as well and this is after i've not done anything wrong! imagine if i had, i'd be left with a bare house!

i'd like to come out the better person in all of this but unfortunately not with so much debt to my name!

alona - why are there men like this and getting away with it?! honestly, idiots (i'd love to say something stronger but i'm having to censor myself!!)

Lol, its a very good question, I was left paying an £800 mortgage by myself and had to start an £18k DMP, luckily I've come out on top but it totally wrecks your trust of people, which is a shame. You will be ok though, stay strong x
