Just out of curiousity i was wondering what the latest fashions were in children now.
I am 29 and when i was in secondary school (1996/7) the trends that everyone had were Naf naf, oilily, burberry, louis vuitton, chanel, kookai, lapapago (sp?).
Just wondering what are the `in` things now?

Hiya, I work with kids. The main ones for girls 12 and up that I've been noticing are things like Paul's Boutique, Ugg Boots etc but tbh names and tops etc with logos on aren't as popular as when I was younger (i.e the old DandG tops and Kookai and Warehouse bags for school, I'm 26 lol). I think alot of girls blow their pocket money in Primark and get alot of cheaper items that are in fashion (footless tights, gladiator sandals, playsuits etc). You see alot of DC shoes and Converses though and sometimes the more sporty or r&b type kids will wear Bench, Golddigga, RocaWear, Gio-Goi, BabyPhat, Henleys etc. American brands like Hollister and Abercrombie and Fitch are really popular over here now (though ridiculously over-priced outside of the States). High street shops like TopShop, Miss Selfridge and Jane Norman are still really popular.
I think you see alot of teenagers really into making a statement now compared to when I was younger and you tend to see alot of EMO's and girls styling themselves in either a very WAG way or very retro 60's with flicked out eyeliner and massive back-combed bumpited hair.
When I was younger, the fashion wasn't as expendable. You would have one coat for the year (usually branded and it would become your "second" coat the following year) and one pair of levi's or wranglers. T-shirts would have logos and the majority of teenagers would wear jeans and plainish tops/hoodies outside of school for going into town or whatever. When I look back I just think "Dawson's Creek" lol. Then you would get the "Townies" with their Addidas pants, Ellesse Sweatshirts and gelled back pineapple on top of the head ponytails :rotfl:. Goths etc were seen but generally it would just be very few kids. The emphasis was on fitting in (with your Kickers shoes and your 501's) rather than standing out and I think things have changed alot since then even though its only 8 years since I left my school.
I was never one to "fit in " though I have to say, I loved to think of myself as a bit of a rebel. I changed my look alot in school and was a bit of a label queen at first until I settled down into being a bit of an artsy hippy chick. I used to have these silver doc martins which I thought were amazing at the time and I would wear long maxi dresses and skirts or peasant tops and flared jeans with embroidery on. I used to love hats (actually, I still do) and my hair was super long (past my bum). I had a ring obsession and would love going into our local hippy shop and trying on millions of different celtic rings. I even wore them on my thumbs and my toes, had an amethyst pentagram pendant round my neck and painted my nails black, purple and green! And I wondered why no one wanted to go out with me :rotfl:. I must have looked so scary! All the boys fancied Rachel Stevens, Britney Spears and Sarah Michelle Gellar and I was traipsing around looking like some sort of Pagan/Wiccan/Character from the musical Hair
. Lol, I am SO glad that I'm not a teenager anymore! 0 -
Thank you

Funny how times change really.
I was amongst a group in secondary school who wore named items and had to have a named bag for school, including pencil cases and stationary all named
I used to save my pocket money to buy oilily pencils and rubbers - dare not use them though of course LOL!
I thought it was more relaxed. After recently moving to a new area of young people i have noticed its all is more sporty and more relaxed in what they wear and have as accessories.
Kickers i had
lovely and comfy i must say and how good did we feel wearing those:rotfl:
I had a huge collection of naf naf puffa jackets in all colours only for a new collection to come out once id got the final colour :rotfl:
I also had chippie trainers and a chippie jumper courtesy of a dad who really had no idea what he was buying until he arrived at the shop after me calling him to come quickly!!
I hardly ever wore them, just hung it outside my wardrobe for friends to see lol.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I had Chippie stuff too when I was about 12 lol, it was my pride and joy for a while as well as my CAT puffa jacket. I had named school bags and pencil cases/stationary for a while (Versace, DKNY, Moschino) and do you remember Storm and BabyG watches? Also used to wear CKOne, Versace BabyPink Jeans and Tommy Girl perfume to school. In fact, the smell of Tommy Girl just takes me back to when I was just getting into boys and my first kiss etc, good times
. Did you have all those multi-coloured gel pens too? I used to annoy everyone by drawing "tattoos" on their hands with them when I got bored in class! The boys didn't like having hearts and flowers on their hands for the rest of the day lol. I would tippex out my calculator case and write Miss Indie loves Olly 4 eva on it, and every time I changed crush I had to re-tippex it! And our school skirts had to be rolled up and our socks slouched down. And my locker had pictures of Leonardo Di Caprio and Angel from Buffy inside as well as Shakespeare Quotes, flower power and peace sign stickers and posters/lyrics from musicals I was into. Ah, good times! 0
