Yup, it's perfectly possible to pick up white faced, printable CDR's (and DVDR's too, for that matter).
Yer local PC World/Maplin should do them, or if you've a local independent PC shop, they're probably worth a look, too. Alternatively there are cheap places online; try ebay, or various other online sites, SVP for example. (They do a "sample" pack if you just want to buy one ot two).
Some of Epson's photo printers have a CD printing facility. I have the R300 (now superseded by the R340) and get great results.
If you're just looking to do one, I'd be happy to do it for you.0 -

Yes I get blank full face dvds from svp. I use Epsons own cd printing software that came with epson R300. You can use cd/dvd marker pens too for a couple of quid you can ones that have a several colours, red, blue, black, green etc
I use MS publisher for covers0 -

This is a company I use for blank media as they offer good prices and a good returns policy for any unused media they will refund you and as I live near them it is handy
http://www.digitalpromo.co.uk/erol.html
Look down the left hand site of the page for "CD-R Printable media"
Think prices start off at £5.75 for 500
