Adult teeth behind baby teeth

My 6 year old son has his 2 bottom adult teeth, they are pretty much all the way through now but his baby teeth are still there. His baby teeth are wobbly but they have been wobbly for about 2 months now.

I have spoken to our dentist over the phone and he has advised that my son wobbles them a few times a day to try and get them out. He said not to worry, they will come out and then the adult teeth will slowly move forward to were they should be. We don't have an appointment for a check up until Novemeber and apparently they can't fit him in before that because it isn't an emergency.

Am I stressing about nothing? I was thinking about getting another dentists advice? I have had nothing but hassle my whole life with my teeth and I don't want him to have the same problems!
Thanks in advance.

  • I had a similar thing but my baby tooth wasnt wobbly - it needed to be removed by dentist as adult tooth was pushing it. If his tooth's wobbly then chances are if he still gets money for teeth he'll yank it out in a few weeks himself! Dont worry - he'll be fine

It'll be fine, just encourage the kid to wobble them.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.

My granddaughter, age 6, had the same thing. The adult top front tooth was coming through in the roof of her mouth way behind the baby tooth. The dentist noted it at the last check up and told her to wiggle it to get it out, but unfortunately 6 months later it was still hanging in there, quite firmly fixed!

At that point he said it would be best if he extracted it, which he did, and now the adult tooth is moving forward into the correct position. It's not in line yet with the other upper front tooth, but hopefully it will get there.

She coped quite well with the extraction, although it wasn't the most brilliant of experiences for a 6 year old. She did get extra money from the tooth fairy that night!
