You might be interested to know that you can do a similar thing with Yahoo - just set up an appointment on your calendar rpeating every year and you can get a mail sent to you or sent to yahoo mesnger. This service messenges you up to 14 days before the birthday, and you can also set reminders for anything else you like too - not just birthdays...

I'd imagine that google has a similar service - and they'd both be free...

Any calendar service will do this (Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar, Outlook, etc) with a repeating event.

It's not really worth setting up a new service, just use your existing calendar.
