Hi
I have been on the HM Site and cant find an answer to a discussion i had over a few beers last night.
I am in a long term relationship with my girlfriend, we live together and are expecting a child in October.
I am in the Forces and obviously pay full tax and NI, where she works part time. We are not married, but live together.
the question is, when our daughter arrives, does my tax code change??
thank you

no - there is no tax allowance for having children so your code will not change. One of you will get child benefit and as a family you may qualify for working family or children's tax credits (latter is very likely unless your combined income is very high - about £40 per month minimum)Adventure before Dementia!0

Your tax code will not alter, however you may be entitled to financial support via the tax credits system, check out the direct.gov.uk site. Congratulations on becomming parents0

The tax code used to change under the Child Tax credit system which stopped in before the current tax credit system.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0
