Our obsession with house prices is bonkers

"Second, the British obsession with house prices is bonkers. A rising market is good only for the two-thirds of people who live in their own home."That would seem like a majority to me; a larger one than put the government in power.Perhaps elections are 'Bonkers' too, then?Dunno why I'm talking like Hamish this morning. Are they putting something in the porridge these days?

Out in the real world I dont think people are actually obsessed with house prices. Not the impression I get when I have the occasional bit of human contact anyway.0

Same here, I didnt even realise this sort of obsession even existed until I found MSE and this board in particular. I also didnt know that BTL landlords were so reviled either, or that they were to blame for the housing boom.
I guess that the main reason for this lack of knowledge is that I have no particular interest in house prices or Buy to Lets. I do have an interest in interest rates and so I guess thats my particular obsession. In 3/4 years when my mortgage is much lower and on a LTFR, I'll not be particularly interested in rates either.
I'm just a fair weather obsessive, I just dont have the commitment, drive and stamina of many on here.

In fairness, even MSE is bored with it. This entire part of the forum is kept going only by the interminable debates between around four bulls and four bears.
As an exercise in intellectual debate, it's as fatuous as it comes.0 -
I've noticed that even MSE Towers dont post on this board. They post House Price debates on the House Buying and Renting board. On the last one, I asked why they were not posting a house price discussion thread on the house price discussion board, I was told that not everyone can see this board, which then led me to wonder what the point was of hiding a house price discussion board and then posting house price discussions on a non-house price discussion board. If you see what I mean!!
It's all very confusing. What is the point of this board if even MSE ignores it?0 -

It's like cannabis; keeps us misfits entertained, without doing any serious damage.
