Jobseekers Allowence, Starting a new job

Hi
On Saturday 28th august i found out that i have a job which i start tomorrow, Tuesday 31st august, the problem is that the job requires me to work away from home (Monday - Friday), and with today being a bank holiday means i'm not able to get down to the jobcenter to speak with them in person.
Now what i wanted to ask was with this new job being a monthly wage, is there anything i would be entitled to claim to keep me going and help me get by till theend of the month when i get paid?
Also one of my neighbours had said that she recalls her advisor mentioning a job grant of some kind for people starting full time work, does anybody know of this grant and what it requires to be entitled to claim it?
Thanks, Joe

there is a grant but I know that I wasn't eligible because you have to have been on JSA for at least 26wks to be eligible. Someone with more knowledge will be along shortly!:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

I *think* you are able to claim if you have been on JSA for 6 months then find work. However, its not something you apply for. If you are eligable, it will be paid to you automatically.
Im sure someone else will come and correct me if im wrong.0 -
Thanks alot for the quick replies
Well i have been on JSA for more than six months, but the job centre sent me on a 3 month IGEN course and while i was still recieving my benifits plus an extra £10 a week, they told me that i was technically signed off of JSA for the duration of the course and that i had to re apply for my claim once the course had finished. Will this class me as not eligible for this grant?
edit: igen finished 3 weeks ago and before i started the course i recieved a p45 or something similar0 -
I honestly dont know, someone else will be able to clarify that technicality. Or ask your advisor tomorrow.0

you can get JG if you have been on any combination of certain benefits for 6 months without a break including allowance payments based on JSA, this is paid automatically. Also Housing benefit run on for 4 weeks if you're getting HB. You may be able to get a social fund crisis loan after your last JSA payment runs out if you cant get a sub from work.0

Thank you cassie
do you know how much i would recieve from the JG?
and what exactly is this crisis loan and can i apply for it over the phone?
I'm starting work tomorrow and i wont be back home till late friday night and same again every week after, so there is no possible way for me to actually get in to the job center and speak with them.
also i was supposed to sign on today but was excused because of the bank holiday, if i ring them tomorrow and tell them that i have started work, will this weeks money be cancelled?
and sorry for all these questions. Its just i have never dealt with the job center before until i got laid off work, and apart from signing that piece of paper every two weeks and just doing what they ask, i have no idea what is available and how it all works.
I have just filled in the form from my pack and put it in the post box and again i have no idea what happens next. I just wanted to check if there is anything available for me as i didn't want to be stuck without cash for the next 4 weeks.0 -
Your JSA is paid in arrears, so you will be paid for the last two weeks. When the JC receives your completed ES40 card they will close down your claim and if you are entitled to a job grant it will be paid automatically, the amount will be £100 or £250 depending on your circumstances.0

Thank you Sues48
That's great, just knowing that i will get at least the 2 weeks JSA as put my mind at ease. Aslong as im carefull i should be able to make that last till i get paid.
and thanks to everyone else who posted i really appreciate your help.
