MacKanzie Hall Threats for Debt Not Ours

We have recently received 2 letters to previous occupier of our home, which we returned "Gone Away". We have now lived there 12 years.

On Saturday I opened one of the letters in error and have discovered that MacKenzie Hall are now threatening to link our address with old debt for previous owner of the house.

Needless to say having done some checking I realise that I shouldn't phone them, however does the "Prove It" letter work when they are writing to someone else at your address and how do we make sure they do not harm our credit by putting this debt against our address:(

    Hi,

Normally poor credit ratings affect individuals and not addresses, so they may well try to link your address to the individual who's name is on the letter, but it certainly shouldn't affect your credit rating. Don't phone them as they are rude, obnoxious, aggressive and bully people. Send the prove it letter and see what happens, as you may well never hear from them (with any luck) again. Post on this thread if you need any more help.
If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.

Not your debt, so cannot affect your credit file at all.

I would just continue returning the letters to MH. Not your problem.

After must searching, I found a link about Lowell pursuing for payment from someone who didn't owe anything - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2670865

The main tip is just to ignore them and they should go away.

Further to this- your credit report is against you as a person, not against a property. It is a common misconception that proprties can be "blacklisted", it's not true. You have nothing to worry about.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

Thanks Hannah. Didn't know that. I've learnt something new today. Off to write a letter to MH:T
