From what i was told, memory foam is the business if budget will stretch.
Paul Simon Beds is having a massive Bnk Holliday sale with 50% plus an extra 20% off many lines. in our area all M Foam was half price!Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!0 -
Yes, definitely best to go for higher quality. I got mine from Duvetandpillowwarehouse. It is graded at 85kg per m3 £116 + delivery for a single and £145.89 + del for King size (there was an offer of 15% discount at the time). It is 7cm deep and I wouldnt be without it.Ellie

Whatever make you go for, make sure that it is made in the UK (there are some low quality dodgy imports about). The optimum density id 60 to 70kg per m3, and the optimum depth is 2" (5cm).
You need to remember that a topper won't be as good as a mattress with memory foam built in, and that it will get hotter because the memory foam is on top of the mattresses existing quilting.
Never use a memory foam topper to try and revive an old worn out mattress, as the spring layer underneath is actually more important for support than the memory foam.0 -

As the owner and user of a 2" topper for the last 7 years I'll agree with all the above, and add that many toppers come just as a foam roll without a cover so wear and tear may cause minor pieces of foam to break off after a period of time.
A topper is very good at relieving pressure points on the shoulders and hips, probably more so than when integrated into a mattress under other padding.
One other thing to always bear in mind with toppers is that you are adding to your mattress depth, and may well struggle to get fitted sheets to fit properly.

Actually the oposite is true. Mattresses with memory foam built in give better support than toppers. This is because the existing quilting prevents the memory foam from working properly.0 -

Relieving pressure points and giving support are not quite the same thing; does the above post not contradict what you said earlier about the spring layer underneath being more important than the memory foam?0 -

Memory foam relieves pressure points, and the springs give support. By haveing the mattresses quilting inbetween the two prevents them working in harmony, a lowers the efectiveness of the spring layer.0 -
