Good evening everyone,
Most bizzare thing happened today, my OH received a phone call from a company that he cannot remember the name of now as he was at work when he took the call... its to do with a draw we entered into via quidco over a month ago for a cruise holiday. they said there is good and bad news, we didnt win the cruise BUT we have won 2nd prize which is 7 nights for 4 ppl to tenerife or costa del sol..... hmmmm
They said we have to go to birmingham to book the holiday but to somewhat pay us back we will receive £50 of high street vouchers within the next week to cover the travel costs... hmmmm BUT (and there is always a but) there is a £25 booking fee applicable for each person... this not payable until 8 weeks before the holiday... !!!!!!
Ive heard of so many scams so it will be interesting to see if we receive our £50 high street vouchers in the next week
what you think every one ???/
scam or no scam

I hope it is genuine, but it does certainly have a 'scent' of scam about it. Try and look back at the competition details and post name of company.
There was a similar thread, by cariel about three weeks ago.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Is the company called Club La Costa?
They phoned me a couple of months back saying we'd won a free trip and accommodation, all we had to pay was the airport taxes and transfers, which worked out at about £95 a head. Same blurb about the £50 high street vouchers, and a Birmingham venue.
Thing is, my stepmother has a flat is Spain so I have access to free accommodation anyway and can generally get flights for less that £95 so I didnt bother taking them up on their "offer".
I'm pretty sure it'll be a hard sell on a timeshare when you get there. Just depends how tough your resistance is.Debt free since December 2015. It can be done0 -
well i dont hold much hope. something ive learnt in this life is you get nothing for free... i said to my oh that they will be after you buying something from them like timeshares etc.
ive thought about it this way, if they give us £50 in vouchers and we then go down and pay £25 each x 4 ppl, then we give them £100.... thats £50 profit for them ... and thats before they try to sell something to us...
i think ill wait in baited breath for the vouchers and if they arrive i might treat my self lol0 -
Hi I received the self same phone call two days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Like someone has said, they will almost definitely try and sign you up to a timeshare. I said to the guy "If I have genuinely won a holiday, I shouldn't need to pay anything and by the way no-one gives you anything for nothing!"
I was given a number to call with a code to say but as I'm sure you've guessed, I have not even bothered to write the numbers down - it's all a con!DMP starts June 2012, £38,180.
Balance June 2015 £26,046 (paid off 32%)

yes that was another condition, we have to pay as you say airport taxes and transfers,.... im gonna ask oh in a min, when he comes down stairs if that name rings a bell0

I have also had the same 'offer'. I am sure you can get a relatively cheap holiday from it, but it would involve quite a bit of hard sell. Telling them you had a bad credit rating and too much debt would be unlikely to put these people off!Julie

why its (nearly) always a scam
you pay an 'arrangement fee ' often non returnable.
vouchers are usually discount vouchers so to get your 50 worth you have to spend 500.
transfers and taxes are a number made up by the company not real costs.
sometimes you have to buy meals etc.
read the small print...they choose the resort and the date ..you dont (you have to read the small print very carefully to see this.0
