Electrical Surveys

I need some electrical work carried out on my home, the problem is that i have different electricians quoting for different things with different prices (my current range is £170 -£2000), so with the hugh gap in prices i would like to know if you can get independant electrical surveys carried out on your home with an un bias view regarding the work by the big power companies, ( i use npower at the moment) ?
