Bankruptcy and child support

I am due to go bankrupt in 2 weeks. My ex wife and I have been separated for 2 years. I have been buying things for the kids (clothes, school trips etc) but in the heat of our animosity I have never given her money directly for the kids, which I know is wrong, I just thought it might make her more dependant on me. I know, I know...Im an idiot.
She is on benefits herself and has been at college and has now secured a place at university. I have told her I will now give her money on a regular basis in a formal way, which she said will probably jeopardise her place at university and as such he hates me even more. Just when she is getting on track, I am messing up again!? She thinks that by giving her a regular payment after all this time will mean she will be on the threshold and will not be able to afford university.
Can anyone give me any advise on this as I think she is wrong.
Thanks.

ON what basis is she saying that getting extra money will jeapordise her place? Her benefits are not affected by child support.0
