Bankruptcy info required Please

Hi I am hoping someone can give me some advice.
I will not go into details about my situation as it is very long.
The shortened version is that I have just found out today that I have been made a bankrupt in Scotland over a month ago.
I was involved in a business partnership , which I belived I had no legal involvment in for almost 2 years. I found out today that this was not the case as the other partner had not legally completed all the documents wich removed me from the partnership.
I have not yet been contacted by anyone regarding this ie. the trustee people, but my name has been on the local paper naming me as bankrupt. I found out all this info today from the girlfriend of my ex business partner.
My questions are :1. can this be done without anyone advising me or contacting me?
2. I live in Belgium so how will this affect me here?
3. Should I contact the trustee people? I have been given their contact details or wait until they contact me ( they gave all my contact details)
4. How does being made bankrupt effect me and my family? I have no assets, I rent a house here. I am classed as disabled so I am on benefits. Does it affect my Husbands wages etc.
Any advice anyone can give me would be appreciated. I am still on shock regarding this and I am totally confused by it all. I just do not want to make any mistakes. Thanks

I have looked quickly at the website and I see that the number to call is an 0800 number which I cannot call from Belgium. I will read the site in depth and see if there is another number for me to call.
    Thanks again

Is there not an email address?

    Hi again.
Yes I found one and I have emailed them asking for advice.

    Thanks again.
  • I have still not heard anything back yet from the insolvencyhelpline. Does anyone out there have any answers to my query??? Thanks
  • Is there no one who knows if I should contact the trustees or should I wait until they contact me. That is nearly 2 months since I was made bankrupt and no one official has contacted me to tell me. Is it because I am in Belgium ? please any advice would be great as I have still not had a reply from the helpline Thanks

common sense says if you are concerned to resolve the issue you should contact the trustees. if on the other hand, you dont want to resolve the issue and hope it goes away then dont contact them.

as to your questions...best to ask someone in Belgium about the impact in Belgium.
the way it affects you in general will depends upon the details of the judgement...do you know what are were?
    your husbands wages are ok.

    Hi Thanks for the reply.
As stated before I no one official had infromed me yet of this bankruptcy its almost 3 months according to the announcment in the local paper that I was made bankrupt.
I do not know any information regarding the details of the judgement all I know is what is says in the newspaper

    Sequestrations

Bankruptcy (Scotland) Act 1985 as amended; Section 15(6)

Sequestration of the estate of (then my name and business name) then details of who the trustees are etc and the date.

I would not even know who to ask here in Belgium regarding this matter and to be honest I am not sure I want anyone here to know I am a bankrupt.
I just do not understand how I can have this happen to me without having any input into putting my case forward. I would have thought that a partnership was being made bankrupt then all parties involved would be contacted.
I do know that the trustees were told that I had nothing to do with the business for over 2 years, but they seemingly said that because I had not been removed legally from the partnership I was still liable.
The partnership was for the running of a pub. The brewery knew I was removing myself from the partnership and my partner was taking over it all.
I had even signed a document stating I was handing over the full share to my partner.
The brewery gave my partner the appropriate forms to fill in and sign but seemingly he never did and neither he nor the Brewery informed me of this.
Now I have been made a bankrupt with no say in the matter.
I just feel a complete fool.

You could try the British Consulate in Brussells.
