Ideas for a cheap and cheerful Halloween Party

Its not been the best few months ever as my oh lost his job and we had to cancel the wedding :(

I would like to throw a halloween party for my toddler (nearly 3) and her friends.

I would really appreciate any ideas on cheap and cheerful food, games and decorations.

Thanks in advance - we all need cheering up :)

i will have about 17 adults and 15 kids in a two bedroom flat - so probably quite manic lol

  • Hi sorry to hear your having a hard time of it lately, sounds like a party is just the thing to cheer you up.

For the adults you can't beat a big pan of chilli/curry with rice/baked potatoes and for kids how about hotdogs in buns both very cheap to do;)

We made a jelly last year and put a bag of jelly creepy crawlies in it, the kids loved it! Again cheap to make.

Can you ask people to make 1 item of "halloween themed" food and bring it with them? We always do this in our family and it really does help with cost;)

For decs we cut long strips of orange and black crepe paper and hung them in the doorways. We cut "bat" shapes out of black card and "ghost" shapes out of white card and hung them everywhere. I got "scary" music off the net and put it on a CD and left it on repeat all night! Songs like the ghostbusters theme tune are good.

Bob the apple is a cheap and cheerful game.

Can't think of anything else at the mo but I'll have a think and see if I can come up with anything else:D

    creepy cocktails, made from squash?

  • Love the idea of the jelly with the creepy crawlies in it.

There are loads of great website for free pumpkin carving patterns. They are actually pretty easy to do and look absolutely fantastic. I did a few last year and got so many compliments from guyers' parents.

Sorry, as a new user I can't post links, but do a google search for free pumkin patterns and take your pick! I like the dltk-holiday website.

    Hi

I did a halloween party last year. For food we had witches fingers (cheese strings with pepper finger nail), pumpkin puke (cheese & ham pasta coming out of a picture of a pumpkin), monster toes (cocktail sausages in a wrap with tom sauce), witches broomsticks (cheese straws in the shape of broomsticks), monster hand (green jelly hand on red jelly - used a glove to get hand shape), scary cakes (fairy cakes with different decorations on top - spider web, sea monster, mummy). monster pizza (pizza cut into man shapes).

For games I cut out pumpkin shapes and played musical pumpkins. we did musical scary statues. had a fancy dress comp. and pass the pumpkin. and split into teams to make a mummy out of cheap toilet paper.

For decorations me and kids made spiders out of egg cartons and pipecleaners, put up spider webs on the walls and stuck the spiders to it. Had bats hanging from everywhere.

i even did a party bag full of spiders and scary sweets.

Cant think of anything else at the moment.

If you hang black thread in a dark room (from the ceiling) it feels like webs as they brush your face.

Make a big witch (like a guy) with a balloon for a head and wearing a mask sat astride a broom , suspend from the ceiling, stair railings or in the garden and she is flying. Make a ghost one using white bin bags or an old sheet.

black bin bags make cheap and disposable table cloths, cloaks, hanging door curtains (cut into strips), banners.

Hot dog sausages with the tips dipped in ketchup are good severed fingers, hot dogs are cheap and filling.

custard with grapes looks like eyeballs in vomit!

    tinned tapioca pudding is frogspawn

    gherkins are witches fingers

    raisins are dried spiders

the possibilities are endless and the children are enthralled by it all regardless of cost.
