The very latest firmware is 2.80 which you cannot downgrade at the moment to a lower version (1.5 to run homebrew)
You can downgrade anything up to 2.71 as long as you don't have the TA-082 motherboard inside your psp.
According to various sites this motherboard is more likely to turn up in the latest white manufactured psp's.
Out of interest the black psp base pack + games I ordered online from woolies had the 2.01 firmware0 -
if anyone were wondering the original ceramic white jap imports also had a diffrent screen which was brighter and more sharpe, i believe the jap version has an LG screen and the black uk spec version has a SHARP screen.
i got the ceramic white imported around this time last year (just before crimbo) and compared it to my mates black uk spec version, the screen is massivly diffrent.
but either way the psp rocks !0 -
We bought PSP with two games from Toysrus for £159 delivered - I think quidco were involved too! Starter pack plus Pinball and World Tour Soccer. There were other combinations of games for the same price.0

You need to look on the back of the PSP.Open the umd tray and leave it open. You can just see a small section of motherboard if you angle the PSP away from you - If there's no writing on there then you don't have a TA082 board (The pic above shows you exactly what to do though so not sure why you can't see the board!)
I think from memory, they've been able to load homebrew stuff on 2.8 firmware boards but nothing has been released yet that will allow you to downgrade.

If not and he prefers the black then it is worth more to him.
And besides, the value only holds up if he intends to sell the thing and judging by the very fact he's only just purchased it the this would seem unlikely.
no, the white version has higher buttons than the black 10
