Just to say that having a degree in Social Work doesn't mean he would have to go into statutory social work. It could be a good jump-off point for lots of voluntary sector jobs and doesn't have to be the type of work he might have come across.
I'm biased. I'm a social worker but I work in a CMHT (Community Mental Health Team) alongside a few psychologists and seriously, they have been recruiting recently for the trainee posts and get hundreds of applicants - more than we get for the admin posts when they are advertised.0
