I should have known when DH starts a conversation with 'babe' he is about to drop a bombshell
Anyway to cut a long story short - i now have 8 guests plus me, him and the two kids for dinner tomorrow (late afternoon / early evening) all guest travelling some distance and therefore will be expected to be fed and watered!
DH says - dont stress babe , just something simple not a formal dinner - maybe an italian or mexican (kind of like a hot buffet) - you see I forgot to mention the living room has just been plastered and most of the furniture is in storage and we are using the dining room as a living room etc etc..
Any ideas sor simple, tasty and not to expensive greatly received.

Something like lasagna, garlic bread and a side salad would be cheap and easy to prepare for the number of guests you have coming.
Fair play to you hun, I actually would have killed him, eek!0 -
Got a slow cooker? If so, a nice spagetti bolognase? Won't hurt if eaten an hour early or an hour later. Cold dessert, so you can do it ahead - cheesecake?
Also, your DH to do all the washing up, cleaning up & cleaning the loos0 -
I have an idea.
Take the kids out for a pizza or a chinese or similar, and let hubby cater for the guests...0 -
chilli con carne. serve with either jacket spuds, rice, tortilla chips or wraps. or combo of any of the above. grated cheese and salad. you can make the chilli in the s/c so it hot for whenever it is needing to be served. also can make it as hot or as mild as needed.0

I would make a Chilli pasta casserole - basically, you make a big pan of chilli - then cook a load of pasta (I use shells) until "al a dente" (be very careful to have it just barely cooked).
Then you mix the two together and put in a large deep roasting tin/lasagne dish/casserole dish and cover with grated cheese. Then pop it in the oven on low until needed. You can cook it the day before and just assemble it on the day.
It's one of my favourite standbys for those days when you don't know exactly what time your guests will be arriving. Also it is very economical as you can pad it out with extra beans, veg and pasta. HTH

Why not something like a buffet dinner mix of warm & cold so easy to prep
Cold
Bowl Salad, Basket bread, Dips (Homemade), maybe some cheap wafer ham (All can be prep in advance)
Hot
Chicken Wings, pizza cut into slices, potato wedges & garlic bread
(All can be thrown in the oven)
All easy to do and should come up cheap and will look like you have done loads :T:T:T
Tell him he owes you big time :eek:Goal - We want to be mortgages free :j
