debt not showing on your credit report

hi there,

if you receive a letter fm a DCA, but the debt is not showing on your credit file and you think the debt is most likely yours, but you're not sure what should you do. (this is almost academic now as the debt has already been cleared but am now just thinking about it and thinking perhaps it doesnt add up and perhaps someone made a mistake.......)

any help / guidance gratefully rcvd!

Send a letter to DCA in which you do not acknowledge debt to them (plenty of template letters on this forum) and ask for full details of 'debt', including original agreement.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

it would seem to be prudent and common sense to ask for proof from any one asking for money

    a. for full details of the alleged debt, including account details (original creditor, account number , amount of debt and payment history).
    b. that they are entitled to collect it, which essentially has to come from the original creditor

otherwise the debt may not be yours and/or they may simply be crooks or simply mixing you with someone with a similar name.

where or not its on your credit record doesn't of itself seem relevant.
