Software

This may sound totally "square" but every bit of post that comes into my house I scan and save as a pdf file on my laptop (and externally as a backup).

It works well as I have folders for things like BT, British Gas etc and can essentially read the folder like a book.

I would like to take this a step further and incorporate this into something like "Case Management Software".

Ideally I am looking for something, aimed at the home user, where I can scan documents into the software - send letters from the software - and something that can also set diaries and possibly budgets.

Programs like MS Money, I believe, will sort out the budgets but does not help in the other areas.

Im not necessary looking for something that is free. Just something that works

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance.

Probably not a useful suggustion, but my next door neighour faxes all his mail to a service, which turns them into PDFs/other documents and stores them remotely and eventually locally on his machine.

    Appreciate the reply.

I have that bit sorted. I use the Scansnap 500 scanning machine (would recommend this) to scan my post and it automatically stores the pdf on my laptop. I only then need to rename it and store it in a specific folder.

Its that next step I am looking for.

More like a Case Management System.

  • Hey Red Admiral,

I know it's not a home based programme, but at work we use Quickbooks Customer Manager. We scan all of our post in and can then link the pdf's up to suppliers, clients and projects. You can diarise reminders and send template letters from it. It also links up with Quickbooks accounts if you want to keep your finances linked to it.

It's probably more than you need, but it's pretty sweet software!

In that case im not sure, I do not have a great volume so do everything by hand at the moment. I do want to start doing it more properly so i have less paperwork and its quicker to find and move.

Document management systems is probably more the wording you need to use in search engines as they bring up results like this http://www.versionone.co.uk/
