Through CSA or private

good morning,

Last night me and my husband split up. We want to keep things amicable between us as we just grew apart.

anyway, i will have to go onto income support and CTC.

will my husband have to pay money to the CSA or can he pay direct to me so long as i declare it to IS.
I dont really want the CSA involved as im going through them myself for my son who doesnt live with me and its an absolute farce.

It's often best to go through them, we see too many stories of late where recipients seem to forget they had received any contribution and the payer has a long fight ahead of them, CS does not affect your benefits in any case.
    Good luck.

You do know that any child support you get doesn't affect your IS. If your split was amicable get a private agreement set up, if you involve the CSA things between you are your ex will become strained and basically hell.

    Good luck.

But those cases are examples of when a case was opened some time ago and hadn't been closed and the NRP had been paying direct to the PWC.

There is no case open for this couple so there is no chance of him paying and then being asked to pay again in the future.

I agree with DX2 - try as much as poss to keep the CSA out of it. You already a negative experience of them and you don't want them ruining your amicable relationship with the ex.

Are you going back to work?
  • Sorry to hear your news. If he is likely to be reliable I would get him to pay the money to you direct. The CSA are exactly as you describe them. You can always refer to the CSA if he later proves to be unrealiable.

You also have to make the OP aware that it is also up to the NRP where they pay the CS, if any party wants to pay via the csa then it goes via the csa ;)
  • I'll leave that up to you ;)
