End of a Mortgage Deal...

Options
Hi,

I mum has given me a task! As of 31st October 2006 her mortgage deal with Halifax comes to an end. This means she'll start paying the standard variable rate of 6.75% (7% APR).

Can anyone offer anyone with better rates?? I'm pretty clueless as all this kinda thing, but she knows I live and die MSE!!! :money:

Thx

Have a look at the free guides that this site features (go into the 'mortgages and homes' section on the left hand side. Its safe to say that there are loads of better deals than staying on that Halifax SVR. DO you know what sort of mortgage she will want - fixed, capped, etc.... Does she also want to make overpayments to pay it off quicker/save money?

Here's a good site with some pretty good best buy tables to get you started

If overpaying is an option then have a play with the website below - its actually quite shocking seeing how much you can save by just paying that little bit more each month

  • I'm surprised that the Halifax did'nt offer your mum a better rate than the SVR, when my Halifax tracker ran out a couple of months ago they contacted my to arrange a new tracker.

I'd give them a call and compare what they offer her with the market.

Also just a tip ,never tell any-one that you are clueless ,remember this is a public forum ;) whilst the majority just want to help, you never know.
