    HM soup as a starter helps to fill you up a bit before the main course, or instead a pud after,rice,semolina,or even a yoghurt. If its a light meal say bangers and mash and beans or peas why not have a bit of bread and butter to help fill the gaps a bit. I sometimes make a lemon drizzle cake which will last me a week.a slice with some custard for pud or a cup of coffee and a slice after dinner is also a good filler up.being brought up during rationing I was used to smaller portions of meat (the portion size was about the size of a matchbox) so mum filled us all up with extra veggies.grated cheese goes further than a block and I have a small Kenwood grater that cost me about £13.00 which I use to fill up a plastic chinese type container with grated cheese every four or five days and my cheese block lasts so much longer.I also grate carrot into another container for mixing with salads,or even in a salad sandwich.I am a great believer in using as much fresh veg as possible as its so much healtier for you and your pocket as its another filler upper.
    Tomorrows menu for me is
    Breakfast a bowl of porridge made with water and sprinkled with a pinch of salt and a dribble of low fat milk.followed by a nice hot cuppa, which I make a point of sitting down to drink and savour and not drinking it on the go.
    Mid morning a coffee and two digestive biscuits
    Lunch will be a salad of lettuce ,tomato,chopped up peppers, sliced cucumber,some sliced beetroot and possibly a hard boiled egg with a bit ofPhilly herby cheese as a dressing.Pud will be a small yoghurt or a piece of fruit
    Dinner tomorow night will be HM Carrot and coriander soup,Jacket potato with some grated cheese sprinkled on and a long drink of orange juice and lemon slices that have been frozen in the freezer
    supper at aroun .8.30.p.m. will probably be a couple of ryvita and phhilly cheese with some cucumber slices.
    More that enough to fill me up and I go to bed feeling full but not from stodgy stuff.lots of fruit and veg and not too many sweet or sugary things.I find that although sweet things are nice you will feel hungry within an hour as they only give you a 'sugar rush' and don't make you feel full at all.
    I had my chloresterol checked just before I went on holiday and its 3.5 which is very good and my blood pressure is spot on and my nurse was very pleased with my progress.Three healthy meals a day with a small healthy snack in between is so much better for your insides that junk & rubbish food,I eat this way not to lose weight but to just make me feel better in myself.

    I use vinegar for the towel wash. I used to use it neat until I read on here that if you dilute it, it goes onto more of the washing rather than just the first bit it hits. so i just topped up what was left in the bottle with water. probably 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water. but will be brown vinegar after thats all gone. i just put a slug in! I dont measure, i just pour and hope its right!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rotfl:
  • Thanks Flipper OSN, and well done for reducing your grocery bills. I was, rather optimistically perhaps, hoping to limit our grocery spending (including washing powder, nappies and toiletries) to £300 for the next month. I think I will still aim for that amount but won't worry to much if I go over as it is the first month but at least it will give me an idea of what is reasonable. I got paid early this month due to the bank holiday on Mon, wasn't supposed to get paid until next week so it is going to take some serious willpower not to go out spending this weekend!

    One of the things I forgot to say is that it also includes wine. Now that's one area we could definitely cut down. I do think 300 is more than doable once you get the hang of it.

  • As it's not the 1st until Wed I am hoping we can get by on things in the cupboards and freezer until then and I will do a big shop. Dh is not impressed at all. We were in Sainsbury's today taking advantage of the 25% off TU as the kids need some autumn/winter clothes. I asked dh if he wanted to go and get his museli and he said he didn't think he was allowed! Hopefully he will get on board with the challenge too. He took his dinner to work with him (a home made meal from the freezer) and I even asked him to take a bottle filled with diluting juice rather than buying juice from the shop. Long may it continue!

    Not an exact science then :rotfl: Thanks for that, will give it a go when I do my next towel wash, and just hope it helps keep the machine and pipes a bit cleaner and that we don't smell like we've had fish and chips for tea after we've had a shower and dried ourselves on the towels ;)

    Dh is not impressed at all.

    My OH wasn't happy when we started GC but after a few months of seeing how much we saved and realising that our food was healthier and still tasty he came round to the idea. He still thinks some of the OS things are bonkers, if your read the 'os things only you do' thread there are some crazy ideas on there!
    By meal planning, making a list, and thinking abt what we were buying we saved 1/3 off our food shopping. Rubber chicken, a veggie meal once a week and bulking out dishes with veg help too.
