leather sofa looks two years old after 5 months help wanted

please could anyone help me, we brought a leather sofa and chair 5 months ago from a so called very good firm ( i wont mention them on here ) we paid over £1,600 but it looks like it already two years old and the sofa does not support your weight it sags terrible after just 5 months, we contact the firm but they don't seem very willing to help saying there nothing wrong with it, ( won't even entertain the idea of just sending the cushions back and having new foam put in, in fact the guy said and so you think we are going to pay £300 to have this done!!! i was in tears while he was there as it was my choice of sofa and it made me feel a failure for not picking the right firm. they are sending a leather expert out to look at it but it's not the leather, we ourselves have taken one of the cushions to two independent upholsterers and they have advised us in their opinon that the foam inside is back foam ( what they put in the back cushions of the sofas ) we have also contacted trading standads and they have advised us to write a letter under the sale of goods act ( this is where i need help.. WHAT DO I PUT IN THE LETTER, I JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START OR HOW TO WORD IT. I HAVE TO SEND THIS LETTER VIA RECORDED DELIVERY AS SOON AS POSSIBLE PLEASE HELP WITH ADVICE IN WORDING THE LETTER. THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE

I would ask a solicitor to write the letter for you .

Why wont people name and shame????, Jeez- bad companys should be shamed. I had a similar problem with DFS, I phoned consumer direct who told me of my rights they said that as id paid so much for it it should at least last 10 years, so legally that had to either, refund, replace or repair the sofa I had to argue with them a lot and quote parts of the consumer protection act to prove I was serious. I was also in tears but this is their LEGAL responsibility, the dye kept coming off from the leather, they re -spraid it twice, then tried to blame me for cleaning it with a damp cloth and tried to tell me i was using chemicals on it, when i followed the care instructions to the letter, only using water- eventually they came round and recovered the whole suit with new leather and replaced one of the foam bits that started to sag just 6 months after having it. They didnt replace the other sofa part that sagged but tbh I was so stressed about the whole thing i let that one slide. ill NEVER buy from them again though, EVER! to me DFS will always stand for Dodgy F'ing sofas!!

You dont need a solicitor yet, but do mention in your letter that you will get one involved if need be and be clear you will not be fobbed off or be spoken to in the manner that you were. Address it to the manager and explain how rude the person was you spoke to and name them. Phone consumer direct- google the number they are very helpful, be strong and dont tollerate being ripped off. i dont often check this board but if youwant me to look at your letter once written just pm me.

It's worth bearing in mind that just because an item of furniture cost a vast amount it doesn't actually mean it was worth that much.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I wish I knew how you could tell the quality of these when you buy them, I think I was very lucky, bought a leather sofa from DFS 10 years ago, the seats were sagging but the leather looked the same as the day it came from the showroom. I had it refurbed last year for £500 with completely new foam and supports in the arms, and I think it will last another 6-7 years easily.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

Go to your local CAB and they will write the letter for you. The Trading standards should have given you the detail you need to put in the letter.
