Is it true that the Halifax applicant who applied in branch, can't have his case proceeded until this person gets back from sick leave? Surely, the key decisions are taken at head office and anyone there could progress it?
It's true that nobody else in the branch knows what to do with it.

But another adviser (with the same line manager) could and should be allocated the casework.

Your buyer should insist that this gets done.

(I also think that a complaint asking for a full written explanation as to why things are taking so long, together with an appropriate gesture of compensation, might be appropriate).
  • Update is our buyer has now been told that he needs to get something or provide details of his HR dept at his work (presumably to substantiate his salary payslips). Is this plausible ?
He applied for this mortgage more than 3 weeks ago. Why do they keep dragging this on and on? And is it a bad sign or a good one?

Are there any other people who have applied for a Halifax mortgage and gone through this time frame?

    Any and all replies welcome.
  • Hi

How long should it take from making a full application to a survey being carried out with the Halifax? Any people have any experience of their process and timescales?

Our buyer applied apparently Tuesday last week (9 days ago) and was told that he had "passed" the credit check. On Monday of this week (3 days ago) he told our EA that he would have a decision in "48 hours" but still no news and no hint of a Halifax survey being booked in.

We're particularly worried because the buyer was rejected on a Natwest mortgage although he does bank with the Halifax and has a 25% deposit.

We have our mortgage with The Halifax, and as you can see in my sig, we only recently completed. I don't want to worry you, but our mortgage application was accepted on the Friday, and the surveyor was sent out on the Monday!

It could just be that they are experiencing high volumes of work at the moment and are taking a little while longer. Has your buyer or his IFA contacted The Halifax to see what is going on?

Honest view: Things don't quite add up and the underwriter isn't going to sign things off until completely satisfied with the case. Might not be what you want to hear, but your buyer's application is most likely not straight forwards.

Agreed, maybe there is something neither he nor his IFA are telling you?

  • Probably but not sure what though!
  • The answer may lie here:

You mean the NatWest own Halifax? Yes makes sense thanks.

Try not to get too disheartened through.

Best of luck, and keep us posted :)

Nat West does not own Halifax.
