keeping 'early' potatoes ?

I didn't harvest the 'early' spuds I grew in three bags in the back garden at the right time so they're big, but still quite a nice 'tato. There are lots of them, can anyone tell me if it would be OK to cut off the haulms and then just leave the spuds in the bags till they're all used up ? It's cold and dark in there so might be alright as long as they don't start sprouting. There are only two of us and we're eating them quite slowly (would have hoovered them if we'd had them as tasty little 'earlies !).

Yes, they will be fine. Just make sure the bag doesn't get too wet [in this weather] or they will go mushy.

I store new potatoes in standard multipurpose compost which I've dried out really well in the greenhouse. I layer the compost and potatoes in a cardboard box and keep them in a cool dry dark place. They last well into the new year like this. So yes, I would think cutting the tops off and letting them sit in their dry compost would be fine I think. Just move them somewhere like the shed if you've not finished them by the first frosts.
